Baramulla, Dec 06 (KNO): Authorities in Baramulla has begun suspending driving licenses and blacklisting vehicles of repeat traffic violators, following the orders of J&K Transport Commissioner. Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Mudasir Wani told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “Around 8-10 driving licenses of repeat offenders have been suspend, besides we have issued 35-37 e-challans and collected fines of more than Rs 80,000 during the drive.” He said the operations targeted undisciplined road behaviour despite widespread awareness via radio, TV, banners and posters, with Deputy Commissioner backing strict measures against rising violations. ARTO Wani further said that the vehicles operating without No Objection Certificates (NOCs) or permits are being seized while driving licence of habitual violators are being suspended and blacklisted. The MVD official also asked the purchase and resale dealers to register the requisite details as per the recent circular with detailed guidelines and a 21-day timeline, ‘or face establishment seizures post-deadline.’ Official also addressed complaints about scarce transport post 5-6 PM to several villages from major townships, promising a review to ensure late-hour services. Earlier, ARTO had notified that any vehicle having pending challans will not be entertained for fitness certification by the BOI under ARTO Baramulla. The notice further states that vehicles with more than three challans will be blacklisted and the concerned driver’s licence will be suspended or cancelled—(KNO)
